Northern Border Pipeline Company Commences Bison Pipeline Project Open Season

OMAHA, Nebraska – April 4, 2008 – Northern Border Pipeline Company (Northern Border) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bison Pipeline LLC, has scheduled a binding open season for potential shippers to request firm pipeline capacity on a proposed new natural gas pipeline system.  The proposed pipeline system, designated as the Bison Pipeline Project (Bison), would extend from natural gas gathering facilities located in the Powder River Basin supply area to a point of interconnection with Northern Border Pipeline Company in Morton County, North Dakota.

It is anticipated that Bison will consist of approximately 289 miles of 24-inch diameter pipeline, compression and appurtenant facilities, originating at the natural gas gathering facilities of Fort Union Gas Gathering, L.L.C. and Bighorn Gas Gathering, LLC near Dead Horse, Wyoming.  The pipeline will extend in a northeasterly direction to its terminus in Morton County, North Dakota near Northern Border’s Compressor Station No. 6.  The initial capacity of Bison is anticipated to be approximately 400 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) with a maximum capacity of 660 MMcf/d.  However, the ultimate capacity of Bison will be determined by the level of binding shipper commitments.  The projected in-service date for Bison is November 15, 2010.

“Bison will present Rockies natural gas producers, who have rapidly growing natural gas supplies, with a new pipeline outlet providing market diversity and competitive netbacks.  Bison will be the shortest path to a major pipeline with available downstream capacity to robust Midwest and Chicago markets,” said Paul F. Miller, vice president and general manager of Northern Border.  “Bison will also offer Northern Border’s customers and markets greater supply diversity through direct access to growing Rockies supply.”

The Bison Open Season will commence on April 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Central Clock Time (CCT) and is scheduled to close on May 16, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. CCT.  Open season documents may be found on Northern Border Pipeline Company’s web site at www.northernborder.com.
