Gas Transmission Northwest XPress Project

Overview

The Gas Transmission North West XPress Project (GTNXP) will upgrade three existing compressor stations on the Gas Transmission Northwest (GTN) system - transporting natural gas since 1962 - to meet increasing demand from residential, commercial and industrial customers in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States while also providing supply reliability to the Pacific Northwest and West Coast regions as natural gas supplies coming from the Rockies region of the United States decline.

The Project will ensure ongoing reliability to communities in the Western U.S. in a safe and responsible manner, supplementing renewable energy as required. GTNXP's scope consists of the following facilities and associated upgrades with all work to be conducted within the compressor stations' property lines:

Existing compressor station location
Upgraded software operating system to uprate existing turbine compressor horsepower
Additional gas cooling
New turbine compressor Installation

“This project will support…additional capacity to regional utilities at a time when additional energy is needed to drive the Northwest’s recovery economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Dan Kirschner
Executive Director of the Northwest Gas Association

“Even as our nation works in the long-term to rely on alternative sources of energy, the immediate needs of Oregonians are met by traditional energy sources. The GTN Xpress project would transport low-cost natural gas to customers in the Pacific Northwest. The project itself consist of modifications to three compressor station in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.”
Lori Chavez-DeRemer
Member of Congress

“Projects such as GTNXP will help ensure we have the energy needed to grow our economy in a way that is delivered safely and reliably.
